Currently, Christus students are studying simple machines in Physics class. A catapult is a compound machine that primarily uses the lever simple machine to launch objects, but it may also incorporate other simple machines depending on its design, such as a pulley and a screw. Archimedes first organized and provided the scientific framework for simple machines but no one person discovered them. There are two essential processes in reading. Decoding and encoding both rely on phonemic awareness, yet are distinct. Decoding involves converting written text into spoken language, while encoding is the process of converting spoken words into written form. Both are vital! This is why you might see a first grader at Christus being asked to spell something by writing on paper or closing thier eyes and saying it aloud. They are practicing encoding their phonograms. Parent Progress Pumpkin Party time! We had our first quarter progress family meetings. Yes, that’s right, the parent and student are both present for these and they are a time of celebration, communication, and fellowship. We aim to make sure parents, teachers, and students are communicating well. Keeping close tabs on what is going on in the hearts and minds of their students is a big priority for our teachers. We don’t just give a percentage grade and a one sentence comment, we offer cultivation of character, which cannot be reduced to numbers.
